Epilepsy Symptoms And Condition

SEIZURES AND EPILEPSY

Epilepsy is one of the more prevalent problems of the American society. It covers a large percentage of people whose age range from childhood to 20s. Epilepsy is a disorder of the brain which affects the nerve cells, which, in turn, makes these nerve cells send distorted signals to the other parts of the body. Thus, the normal behavior of the neurons becomes disturbed and instigates strange behaviors, sensations, emotions which can sometimes be accompanied by convulsions, muscle spasms and/or loss of consciousness.

Seizure is the most common Epilepsy Symptoms And Condition. This usually lasts for a few minutes and is very noticeable because it is accompanied by muscle spasms and jerking movements. However, not all seizures are obvious. Some instances just make the patient zone out into the distance, a few muscle twitches, a head turn or a strange sensation that only the patient experiences.

Epilepsy Symptoms And Condition

Epilepsy symptoms and conditions depend on the type of epilepsy one has. The most general ones include convulsions, muscle spasms, loss of consciousness, grand mal seizures, petit mal seizures, strange sensations, emotions and behavior. These symptoms, excepting the last three, occur for a few seconds up to a few minutes.

Temporal lobe epilepsy symptoms and conditions involve sudden behavior changes, unusual behavior, aggression, anger and agitation.

Focal epilepsy symptoms and condition, on the other hand, include localized muscle spasm (that which can be experienced only by a certain muscle part of the body), whole body spasm, twitches, tics and hallucinations. These symptoms are never accompanied by a loss of consciousness.

Prodrome epilepsy, meanwhile, has symptoms of changed hearing, visual disturbances, smell sensations, mood changes, muscle pains and tremors. Another type of epilepsy, the status epilepticus, involves more intense conditions of continuous seizures that usually last longer than a few minutes.
